5 Materials You Need to Know About Now: March

Here at Material ConneXion, we’re always researching the leading-edge materials that will help you future-proof your business and lead with confidence. Here, we’ve identified the top five materials that our team of specialists and researchers are most excited by, live in our library and database now.

MC # 8942-01 Morning Ritual: A strong, durable, biodegradable composite for home goods made from used coffee grounds and newspaper waste. It consists of approximately 30% newspaper pulp, 30% coffee grounds, and 40% polyvinyl acetate. Applications are for homeware products, book covers, sound panels, and furniture (such as stool top or table top, etc.).

MC # 8806-02 NanoFlowX GlassX: A non-toxic, ‘liquid glass’ screen protector that creates an invisible nano layer of protection by modifying the surface of the screen. It consists of almost pure silicon dioxide, a silica that is the normal compound found in glass extracted from quartz sand. Applications are for touch screen displays on electronic devices, flat-panel displays, mobile phone components, eye glasses, automotive glass, and LED lenses.

MC # 8647-01 Bio-glitter®: A cosmetic glitter produced from a biodegradable film that is certified compostable. The glitter derives from cellulose supplied by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified suppliers. Standard glitter is considered to be a ‘microplastic’ and this type of plastic has been banned from countries such as the United Kingdom over concerns about infiltration to the water supply and rivers and oceans. Applications include cosmetics for around the eyes and face.

MC # 8317-01 PRISMA™: Premium grade post-consumer recycled HDPE that is custom color-matched for consumer products. Using the patented color sorting recycling process that can distinguish and sort up to 40 million shades, it can create a unique plastic color. Applications are for blow molded and injection molded products for packaging, personal care, toys, recycling bins, decking, and industrial use.

MC # 8317-03 Ocean Bound: Recycled HDPE plastic obtained from qualified partners and verified as originating in the At-Risk Zone of entering oceans that allows the end consumer to trace a product’s journey all the way back to the source. The At-Risk zone is defined by the population living within 50 km of the coast (those likely to generate most of the waste becoming marine debris). Applications are for blow molded and injection molded products for packaging, personal care, toys, recycling bins, decking, and industrial use.
